What Is Wood Composite Cladding?

Wood composite cladding is a modern facade and decoration material that combines the natural wood look with the durability of a plastic composite material. Also known as WPC (Wood-Plastic Composite); it consists of 50–70% wood dust/fiber and 30–50% polymer. Unlike natural wood, it does not rot, does not attract insects, does not require paint and does not deform in humid environments. It has spread rapidly in recent years as an alternative to the environmental and economic disadvantages of using tropical wood. Technical Details

WPC panels generally consist of profiles with a 25x140 mm or 25x148 mm cross-section and interlock with each other via a modular hook-and-groove system. As a frame, galvanized box profile or aluminum profile is preferred; it requires far less maintenance than wood. As surface texture, brushed, flat or grooved options are available. The color range is generally in wood tones — about 8–10 colors such as light teak, dark teak, chestnut, gray and anthracite are available in standard production. Thanks to the modular structure, adjacent panels can be replaced without removing a single panel; in the long term, this eliminates the need to renew the entire system when one panel is damaged.

It is the ideal alternative for architects who want to avoid the maintenance cost of natural wood.

The most frequently seen error in WPC application is the panels "sagging" over time due to insufficient frame spacing. In our workshop, we make a separate load calculation for each facade and adjust the frame module spacing between 40–60 cm according to the panel size. In all WPC work, we give a 10-year color + 5-year structural warranty. When needed, the floor panel and facade panel of the same series are applied together.
