What Is an Illuminated Sign?

Illuminated signs are indispensable for businesses that require night-time visibility. In sectors where the purchase decision is made instantly — such as restaurants, pharmacies, markets and clinics — your business being visible at night directly affects customer numbers. At Techno Reklam in Iskenderun, we produce the illuminated versions of all 13 different sign types. Technical parameters such as channel letter structure, LED module selection, acrylic surface thickness and transformer lifespan directly determine the quality of the sign.

Technical Details

In illuminated sign production, the basic components are the skeleton, the front face, the LED module and the power supply. Our preference for the skeleton is galvanised or 304 stainless steel; in areas close to the coast we always recommend stainless steel. For the front face, 3 mm and 5 mm acrylic (plexiglass) is used; on larger surfaces 5 mm is preferred to reduce the risk of bulging and inward warping. For the LED modules we use branded SMD 2835 and SMD 5630 products, operating at 12V and with an IP65 protection rating. In module placement, the dot spacing is set between 8 and 12 cm; otherwise a "dotted appearance" forms in the letters. In transformer selection, the rule of a capacity 20% above the total load is applied; this extends transformer life to 5–7 years.

Areas of Use

Retail stores on the high street, shopping-mall interior display windows, hotels, restaurants, pharmacies and clinics are the sectors that most often turn to illuminated sign application. The channel letter model designed according to the logo form gives a more corporate and premium impression; in budget-focused projects a vinyl-surfaced illuminated box sign is preferred. Large-scale illuminated totems can be produced for automotive galleries, and high-brightness LED-screen versions for fuel stations.

In Iskenderun's humid climate conditions, the insulation of the electrical components is far more important than in a standard sign. Around Numune Evler and Atatürk Boulevard close to the coast, because the salty air rusts metal components in a short time, silicone sealing and stainless steel bolts have become mandatory at all connection points. In the illuminated sign projects we have carried out along Tayfur Sökmen Boulevard, by maintaining an average brightness level of 30 cd/m² at night, we provide lighting that is both economical and easy on the eyes.

Why Techno Reklam?

The most common problem encountered with illuminated signs is the LEDs going out dot by dot over the years; the cause of this is the use of cheap modules and an undersized transformer. At Techno Reklam we use only branded LED modules and apply the requirement of a 20% reserve capacity on the transformer. After production we provide a 1-year warranty on electrical components and a 2-year warranty on the body. On request, we also install brightness adjustment via a remote dimmer module and a timer-based on/off feature.
