What Is a Neon Sign?
A neon sign is a lighting sign form that has, in recent years, become popular again in cafés, restaurants, boutique stores and entertainment venues. Classic neon consists of a glass tube filled with argon or neon gas and has a very characteristic glow in appearance. Today, however, classic neon has largely been replaced by LED neon flex; it provides the same look with far lower energy and in a safer way. At Techno Reklam in Iskenderun, we produce both retro-style glass neon and modern LED neon flex.
Technical Details
In classic neon, glass tubes 6–13 mm in diameter are bent into the form of a letter or logo. They are filled with low-pressure argon, neon or helium gas, and high voltage is applied from the electrodes at the ends. LED neon flex, on the other hand, consists of SMD LED strips placed inside a silicone casing; it runs on 12V or 24V DC, has an IP65 protection rating and, unlike classic neon, has no risk of breaking. For the back plate, 5 mm plexiglass or 3 mm Dibond is generally used; the letter form is cut with a CNC and the LED neon flex is fixed to the edge of this form with special clips. Single-colour, two-colour or RGB options and dimmer–remote control modules can be added.
Areas of Use
Café and restaurant interior decoration, boutique store display windows, hairdressing and beauty salons, photography studios, birthday and wedding decor, hotel reception and lobby design, and nightclub and bar visuals are areas where neon signs are used intensively. They can also be applied to office walls as a company slogan or an Instagram-friendly message. Outdoors they are also preferred as café or restaurant façade lettering, but the rain- and humidity-protected version should be chosen.
Neon Signs in Iskenderun and Hatay
Over the last 3 years we have produced more than 80 LED neon signs for our cafés around Atatürk Boulevard and the coastal strip, which have Iskenderun's vibrant nightlife. Because classic neon requires maintenance on the coastal strip (gas discharge, electrode burnout), we recommend LED neon flex more. For interior applications, we prepare RGB colour-changing neon compositions for the boutique design venues in Muradiye and Akçay. On all our outdoor neon works, the IP65 protection standard is applied as a requirement.
Why Techno Reklam?
Making a neon sign is handcraft; if the radius is not calculated correctly when bending LED neon flex, white dots form on the strip and the image is distorted. In our workshop we pay attention to minimum bending radii and complete each letter with a deviation of a maximum of 2 mm tolerance. In RGB and dimmable versions, the control can be integrated with smart home systems (Alexa, Google Home). On all our neon works we provide a 2-year warranty on the flex and 1 year on the electronics.
