What Is a Tensioned Vinyl Sign?

A tensioned vinyl sign is produced by fixing a digitally printed vinyl surface to an aluminum frame using a tensioning system. It is the most practical solution for businesses with a limited budget, campaigns that need a temporary sign, or indoor panel use. Its production time is significantly shorter than other sign types; a standard tensioned vinyl sign can be delivered within 24–48 hours. At Techno Reklam, in Iskenderun we have been applying tensioned vinyl signs for years, both in front of single-story shops and on announcement boards inside plazas.

Technical Details

For the vinyl surface, double-sided coated block-out vinyl with a weight of 510 g/m² or 610 g/m² is preferred; this material is opaque and casts no shadow on the back face. Printing is done with solvent or UV technology; UV lamination is not mandatory but is recommended for long life. A 6063 aluminum profile is used for the frame; 90° capped connections or welded connections are applied at the corners. The two most common tensioning methods are a silicone-flap channel or keder tensioning; the silicone-flap system is more practical for dismantling and re-changing the print. In illuminated versions, a high-lumen LED panel or an edge-lit LED bar is placed on the back face.

Areas of Use

Car park entrance directions, building lobby announcement boards, restaurant menu boards, hotel reception backdrop visuals, and trade-fair and event promotion boards are the areas where tensioned vinyl signs are heavily used. On seasonal campaign panels inside malls, tensioned vinyl is practical because the printed visual can be easily changed. It can be used as a temporary sign at branch openings; later, when a permanent composite or channel-letter sign is produced, the vinyl sign can be moved indoors.

Iskenderun's high humidity brings out the most common problem with tensioned vinyl signs — rippling of the vinyl surface. For this reason, on all the tensioned vinyl signs we apply in the region we prefer 610 g/m² block-out vinyl instead of the standard 510 g/m², and we build the tensioning system with more frequent dilatation. In outdoor applications around Çay Mahallesi and Atatürk Bulvarı, we drill a drainage hole into the frame; this way water does not pool in the rear cavity and loosen the vinyl.
